We are right in the middle of the energy transition. And Meyer Burger today symbolizes the renaissance of the solar industry in Europe. The restructuring has been accomplished: the transformation of the company was successfully completed, module production was ramped up and Meyer Burger has established itself as a premium brand for solar modules.
Everything is going according to plan at the new production sites. The ramp-up to 400 MW of solar cells in Thalheim (city of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Saxony-Anhalt) and also 400 MW of solar modules in Freiberg (Saxony) has been completed, and the expansion to the next capacity level of 1.4 GW has started. With the production of highly efficient heterojunction cells as well as innovative SmartWire modules, Meyer Burger is bringing two of Europe’s most traditional solar sites back to life while setting standards with state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly production lines. In total, more than 400 qualified jobs have been created. The next step will be towards the USA, where a state-of-the-art module production facility, including capacity expansion, is being planned in Goodyear, Arizona.
2021 was not an ordinary year. For months, the Corona pandemic paralyzed all economic activity. Nevertheless, in just a few months Meyer Burger managed to secure sustainable financing, establish new supply chains, build diverse customer relationships from scratch, and push sales throughout Europe as well as in the US. Central to this was the establishment of the Meyer Burger premium brand as part of a broad-based online campaign. Under the motto “Ready to shine”, the company presented itself for the first time as the leading European solar brand at the international trade fair “Intersolar Europe” in October 2021. In addition to consistent sustainability in production and corporate orientation, Meyer Burger cultivates its Swiss roots and the traditions and values associated with them. Designed in Switzerland, made in Germany is set for the time to come as well.
The vision for the future is bright. Solar is one of the essential elements of the energy transition, that is closely connected with the quest for supply security and the greatest possible energy autonomy. With its concrete expansion projects in PV production, Meyer Burger is perfectly positioned as a leading European solar player.
Everything is going according to plan in module production. The ramp-up has been completed, the expansion to the next capacity level of 1.4 GW has started and the demand for solar technology is increasing massively.
Meyer Burger’s solar modules come in three types – the high-performance White, the elegant Black and the special Glass-Glass. All three are sustainably produced, environmentally friendly and extraordinary durable.
With a large-scale online campaign and a premium presence at “Intersolar Europe”, Meyer Burger was able to establish itself as a leading solar manufacturer in the market.
In a very short time, Meyer Burger succeeded in attracting outstanding specialists for the establishment of cell and module production as well as in building up diverse customer relationships and a Europe-wide sales team.
